The Term 2 Honors Breakfast recognized 239 sixth through eighth graders Plymouth South Middle School students for their academic efforts and achievements.

Manomet Elementary School students show off their science projects.

Manomet Elementary 5th graders recently displayed their projects at the school’s first science fair.

The students showed off their research on such topics as fingerprints, auditory and visual memory, and the affect of light on plant growth.

Additional exhibits were donated by families, teachers and friends. Among those were the Shea family’s homemade Van de Graaff generator and David Lemme demonstrating various principals of flight.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has rejected Pilgrim Watch’s latest bid to derail the relicensing of Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station.

Blood Drive at the Plymouth Moose Lodge, April 4

The Plymouth Moose will host a community blood drive at their lodge home at 601 State Road in Manomet, Wednesday, April 4, from 2 to  7 p.m.

Walk-in donations are accepted, but appointments are recommended; you can schedule an appointment through the American Red Cross Web site www.redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code 7756, or you can call 800-GIVELIFE (800-448-3543).  

The American Red Cross has organized the drive, and the Lodge has volunteered their facility to hold the event.

Panther boosters collecting sports gear for fundraiser

The Plymouth South High Panther Boosters will be collecting athletic equipment and footwear for a resale fundraiser.

Donations can be taken to PSHS on the following dates:

• Saturday, March 3 from 10 a.m to 2 p.m.
• Monday, March 5 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
• Thursday, March 8 from 5 to 7 p.m.

 

 

Sign your child up for Bodies in Motion at the Manomet Youth Center

This class will introduce and teach basic gross-motor skill development through physical fitness, recreational activities. It promotes confidence, self-esteem and is geared at children to develop listening, cooperative, and social skills that are important to getting ready for school.

The class is for ages 3 to 5 and starts Wednesday, March 7 and runs throughApril 11. The fee is $50 for Plymouth residents and $60 for non-residents.

The Manomet Village Steering Committee meets Thursday, February 23 at 7 p.m. in the Manomet Branch Library.

Review of an excavation project, master plan revisions and criteria for a village logo are on the agenda.

High Point patient puts up a fight

A patient at the High Point Treatment Center who told police he’d rather go to jail than the hospital got his wish.  Of course, all it took was assaulting two police officers.

According to Capt. Bruce McNamee, David Richert, 40, resisted being taken to the hospital, first throwing clothes, then punches. Even after being wrestled to the ground and maced he resisted, until he was finally subdued.

Richert, who is listed as homeless, faces two charges of assault and battery on a police officer, two charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and one charge of resisting arrest.

Plymouth police arrests and log for February 17 to February 21

Manomet man arrested on drug charge.

A 24-year-old Fresh Pond Circle man was arrested during a drug bust at the Myles Standish Plaza on Samoset Street.

According to Capt. Bruce McNamee, a man was allegedly seen by detectives shooting heroin into his arm while sitting in a parked car.  When police approached the Jeep Cherokee they found four people, as well as, allegedly, a variety of narcotics, needles and paraphernalia.

Four people were charged with various drug possession offenses, including the Manomet resident who was charged with possession of a class A substance. All the suspects were released on their own recognizance.

New Manomet restaurant gets liquor license

A new restaurant is scheduled to fill the space last occupied by Nonna’s in Manomet, but its owners may have to work to make friends with the neighbors.

Meeting about White Horse Beach covers more than just the waterfront

The intent of the Manomet Village Steering Committee meeting held Wednesday night at the Moose Lodge may have been to simply provide information, and some answers, about property rights on White Horse Beach. But it wasn’t long before it became an occasionally heated discussion about both the future of the beach and the function of the steering committee itself.
